Who we are

We are Area of People: the community service platform for living environments that makes living more fun and easier. We have our office at 3542 DR in Utrecht at Computerweg 22 and are registered in the trade register as Area of People B.V. under number 72862106. This privacy statement applies to personal data collected, stored and processed by us.

Your privacy is of great importance to Area of People. We therefore comply with the Privacy Act. This means that we:

Clearly set out our purposes through this privacy statement before we process your personal data.
Store as little personal data as possible: only the data needed for our purposes.
Explicitly ask permission for the processing of your personal data.
Implement necessary security measures to protect your personal data. We also impose these obligations on partners who process personal data for us.
Respect your rights, such as the right to access, correct or delete personal data processed by us.
We use a number of terms in this document that we would like to clarify beforehand:

Area of People platform: the whole of Area of People.com, the Dashboard and the Area of People app. In the rest of this document, we refer to this as "Platform".
Services: the set of functionalities that can be used by you such as creating an account, reporting a request and purchasing services.
Service Partners: the set of service providers that are linked to the Platform and can provide services such as the Administrator, broker, parking garage or delivery box supplier.
User: also known as "data subject" - that is you as an occupant of the building or area in which you use our Platform.
Controller: that is Area of People.
Processor: Third parties engaged by Area of People, such as the provider of Hosting of the Area of People Platform.
Joint Processors: Parties that Area of People collaborates with on the Platform.

Responsibility for collecting personal data

Area of People B.V. is a so-called data controller within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation (AVG). This means that Area of People decides which personal data is processed, for what purpose and in what way.

Area of People is responsible for ensuring that your personal data is processed in accordance with the AVG and in a proper and careful manner.



Other parties on the platform

Other parties also connect to the platform, such as the building manager and service partners. With regard to the processing of personal data that takes place by an administrator or service partner, please refer to the privacy statement of that party to obtain more information on how and for what purposes they process your personal data.



What personal data do we collect and for what purposes

Area of People collects the following personal data

Name: necessary for recognising you to other users and services.
Address: necessary for recognising you to other users and services, for example to send a mechanic to your address for a repair.
Phone number: needed for verifying your phone number and when you purchase a service that requires your phone number.
Email address: needed for your verification during login and communication from Area of People and services when an email address is required.
Our goal is to turn buildings and areas into self-organising micro-villages where residents can easily find and help each other. This means that the information you make visible within your building about yourself, such as your profile picture and help profile, or the information you share, such as your opinion on the parking policy, is visible to other residents and also stored by us for this purpose.

In addition, we may use your data for:

Saving your privacy and notification settings;
Managing your user account;
Resolving issues between you and services;
Handling services requested by you;
Anticipating and resolving problems between you and other users, as well as with services;
Improving customer experience on the platform and services;
Research and analysis for maintenance, security and development of services;
Improving existing services and developing new products and services;
Preventing illegal activities, potential fraud and potential threats to services;
Creation of external marketing reports at aggregate level;
Analysing characteristics of users at the aggregate level and usage of the platform and services with the aim of understanding users and market needs;

 

Communication about updates to our privacy notice and licence terms and other information relevant to you;
Preventing and investigating illegal activities and breach of licence terms;
Keeping statistics on the use of the platform (this data is always anonymised).

App stores

You should download our app from Apple or Google's app stores. We have no control over what these companies do with your personal information. So always read their privacy statements as well.



Display of personal data

The information you exchange with neighbours or service partners through the app will also remain strictly within the app and will not be published through our website or otherwise over the internet. You can change your account at any time.



Provision of data to other companies or institutions

We may share your personal data with service partners associated with us within the agreement and only where strictly necessary for the performance of our services. Under no circumstances do we share your personal data with other companies or institutions other than as described in this privacy statement, unless we have express consent from you as a user or if we are required to do so by law (e.g. if the police demand it in case of suspected crime).



Security

Personal data security is of great importance to us. We ensure that your data is properly secured with us. We constantly adjust security and pay close attention to what can go wrong. For example, we secure our connections with SSL encryption. All data is stored within the European Union in accordance with ISO27001:2022.



Retention periods

Your personal data will not be kept longer than necessary than for the purposes for which we process personal data. We delete your personal data when you move or after you have notified us that you no longer wish to use the Platform. We will keep your data longer if it is necessary to comply with a legal retention obligation.



Changes to this privacy statement

If the services or functionalities of the Platform change in such a way that the manner of data processing is also changed, we will inform you accordingly. Keep an eye on our privacy statement on our website and in the app to see how we process your data.



Rights of data subjects

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (AVG), you have the rights below as a user. If you wish to exercise any of these rights, please contact us at privacy@areaofpeople.com.

As a user, you have the following rights:

Information and inspection: to get an explanation of what personal data we have and what we do with it and to see the exact personal data we have;
Rectification: to have errors corrected;
Oblivion: having outdated personal data deleted;
Withdrawal of consent: withdrawing consent to a particular processing of personal data;
Objection: you can object to processing of personal data.
